Adobe CS5 Updates Fail to Install
Adobe CS5 Updates Fail to Install
Its been a while since Ive updated my Adobe programs, so when InDesign kept crashing on me,1 I thought maybe updating would solve the problem. Unknowingly, I found another problem to resolve. Whenever I tried to use the Adobe Updater to update, itll finish without installing anything, saying that "Installation failed."
In my case, the solution was easy. I had all the Adobe CS5 programs in a folder within the Applications folder. If your programs are like mine, please continue reading.
SOLUTION
- Using Finder, open the Applications folder.
- Look for the folder containing the Adobe applications.
- Move all Adobe applications out of that folder.
- Delete the folder as well as the .DS_Store file and the Adobe folder (which may contain another .DS_Store file and a AdobePatchFiles folder) in it.2
- Run the Adobe Updater. The update installation should be a success this time around. If youre still having problems, please visit link #1.

- Deleting that Adobe folder wont harm the programs. Itll be recreated when the updates are done.
